Thom — Field Legacy Society

The W. Taylor Thom, Jr. — Richard M. Field Legacy Society ("Thom-Field Legacy Society") honors those who choose to carry forward the vision first set in motion by Professors Thom and Field when they established “The Red Lodge Project” in 1930 and later founded the YBRA in 1936. Their early commitment to hands‑on field education created a place that has since trained more than 7,000 students, inspired Montana teachers, and launched countless careers in the Earth sciences, ecological and environmental sciences. The Thom - Field Legacy Society recognizes donors who include YBRA in their estate plans or long-term charitable giving, helping to build and protect our endowment. Through these planned gifts, members ensure that YBRA’s unique field‑based learning environment endures, providing future generations with the same transformative experiences that have defined the Field Station for nearly a century.
