2025 YBRA Dutcher Award
It’s with tremendous gratitude that the YBRA awards Greg Creasy the 2025 YBRA Dutcher Award, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a YBRA member!
Having attended the Southern Illinois University (SIU) geology field course during his undergraduate years, Greg has been affiliated with the YBRA for decades. He enjoyed an extensive career in contracting and carpentry, including running his own business, before returning to Montana to use his skills for the benefit of the YBRA. Greg not only manages seasonal operations, but can be credited with the core craftsmanship that has refurbished and expanded camp facilities over the last decade. His master carpentry work is evidenced throughout camp, with highlights being the finish work in the Reinhart Lounge, Dutcher Dorm and Bonini Cabin. In addition to managing daily operations and coordinating capital construction in camp, Greg’s genial personality is core to his role as an ambassador for the organization. He innately works to foster both a positive community climate in camp, and for the YBRA within Red Lodge as a whole. Greg relishes his involvement within the greater Red Lodge community, with a special commitment as a supporter and organizer for Jimmy’s Roadhouse, a listening room forum that brings renowned artists to Red Lodge year round.
It’s with special gratitude that we spotlight Greg’s capacity to generate special projects and solve emergent problems on behalf of the YBRA. His background in carpentry helped affordably foster some of the first capital construction in camp in decades. His creative problem-solving skills helped the organization endure a trifecta of natural disasters, each of which challenged the life of the organization. During the pandemic, he capitalized on the opportunity to manage facility renovations. During the Rock Creek flood, he problem-solved guest transport when bridge traffic was restricted. And during the Robertson Draw fire, he gracefully relocated camp occupants off mountain, and conscientiously supported firefighting operations based out of camp as the fire spread across Mount Maurice. Greg’s capacity to channel his skills as an agent for the organization has left a positive and indelible mark on the YBRA!
The Russ Dutcher Award for Distinguished Service, established in 2002, is an honor named for longtime YBRA supporter Prof. Russell R. Dutcher, who was instrumental in organization operations for several decades, serving on the YBRA Council (Board) as President and as Camp Manager. The Dutcher Award is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a YBRA member and recognizes exceptional service to the YBRA by individuals involved in the administration, management, and operation of the organization. The nameplate plaque, crowned by a picture of Russ Dutcher and the outline of Mount Maurice, resides on the fireplace mantle next to the kitchen in the Fanshawe Lodge.
