We take a moment to honor the legacy of Steven K. Fox, Jr. (1911β1987), whose enthusiastic dedication to field science and mentorship deeply shaped the early trajectory of the Yellowstone Bighorn Research Association.
Early in his career, Dr. Fox led the YBRA field course operations out of Princeton University before embarking on his long, distinguished tenure at Rutgers University. His time in formal leadership was intermittent due to wartime disruptions, but his commitment to the station never wavered. In 1986, alongside co-authors William E. Bonini and Sheldon Judson, he contributed to an invaluable paper describing the founding era of YBRA in honor of its 50th Anniversary. This project serves as an indispensable historical record for our community.
His profound impact as an educator and scientist was warmly documented in a memorial tribute published by Rutgers University, preserving the legacy of a leader who gave so much to the next generation of geoscientists.
